Easy college meals anyone can make

Students with a full kitchen or just a kettle can make these simple meals!

In college you are always pressed for time and money. This can make figuring out what to eat difficult, especially when dining hall food starts to get old. You are also likely to have limited appliances to cook with. Here are some quick, easy and cheap meal ideas you can make no matter your situation.

For those with a kitchen:

Fried Rice:
This meal is easy and can be customized for even the pickiest of eaters. All you need is rice, frozen or fresh vegetables, eggs, oil and soy sauce. A good tip is to cook your rice a day or so before making it into fried rice, it helps with the texture.

Tacos:
A taco is essentially anything you want in a tortilla. This means you can cater it to your skills, preferences and budget. If you want a classic tex mex take go for ground beef with some taco seasoning and any of the classic veggies you like such as tomatoes, lettuce and onions. If you want a healthier option you can use fish or chicken and load up on even more veggies. The great thing about this meal is it’s a really simple way to get most of the major food groups you need in one bite.

For those with a microwave:

Burrito bowl:
To make a burrito bowl all you need is rice and toppings. There are many great microwavable rice packets out there, ones that also have quinoa or other grains help diversify your carb intake as well. After that’s cooked, add the toppings of your choice and heat it all up. This can include beans, cheese, vegetables and any meat. This would be a great way to use leftover meat, or you can buy frozen cooked chicken and simply heat that up. Then you are free to add anything else you want to your burrito bowl, like sour cream or hot sauce. This dish is very simple and will keep you satisfied!

Baked Potato:
To make a potato in the microwave simply stab it about four times with a fork and place it in the microwave for five minutes. Once cooked, cut it down the center and add any toppings you desire!

For those with an electric kettle:

Oatmeal:
Oats are a great source of fiber and so easy to make! All you need is hot water and instant oatmeal packets and breakfast is solved. Add some fresh or frozen fruit for some extra nutrients!

Soup:
This dish is as simple as it gets. All you need is your boiling water and a soup packet. If you want to add a little more to your soup you can easily make miso soup by adding a couple more ingredients. Take a miso soup packet and add water to it. Once that’s done, cut up some tofu and nori and add it to the soup for a very comforting meal. This may not be the most filling, but it is very useful for when you are sick and need something simple to make you feel better.
