Registration tips and tricks

Class registration is coming soon, so be prepared.

Class registration is how classes are selected and approved for the next semester. Usually, selection takes place around 2 months before the current semester ends. Classes can only be approved by meeting or discussing your choices with your success coach. This article provides dates and who you should meet with according to your major.
The registration dates this year are, graduate students and priority students can enroll on Oct 28. Seniors and priority juniors are eligible from Oct 30. Juniors and priority sophomores can register on Nov. 1. Sophomores and priority freshmen can apply by Nov 4. Freshman can apply by Nov. 6. Non-degree seeking and new incoming students can apply by Nov. 11.
All of these open at 8 a.m. prompt, so make sure you have these saved in your calendars and diaries. The dates are ordered in this way to allow for seniors and those with priority, for example, student-athletes, to enter into the classes they need so they can graduate on time. Freshmen have a lot more time compared to seniors to enter into their necessary classes, like degree-required classes, hence why they are given one of the lowest priorities. Seniors may need to take a certain class in order for them to graduate, hence why they are given the highest priority.
It is recommended by The University of Tulsa that you meet with your academic advisor to aid with class decisions. advisors, also known as student success coaches, are there to approve class choices per semester, so by visiting them, you can create a relationship and they can understand what you want to get out of college. Specific major groups are assigned to specific advisors, such as Arts and Sciences majors are usually assigned to Jack Parsley.

Advisors help with questions about classes, and decisions about which class is most appropriate for your year group. Advisors can also recommend classes they have heard other students talk about. Advisors are located on the first floor of the Hardesty Holmes Center and appointments can be made online via Starfish. Appointments typically last for approximately 30 minutes, so have questions ready and have some classes in mind you think you would like to take. Student-athletes have access to these coaches and others, such as Lauren Campbell, Karen Gober, and Natalie Hall. Advisors for athletes are located in the Case Lab and appointments are made via the Teamworks app that all athletes have access to.
Anna Shaw has praised the advisors in the Case Lab and has said “The advisors are really helpful, especially with international students. They thoroughly explain the process of choosing classes and the requirements, as this is different from the process I use at home. The various advisors I have worked with have been willing to go above and beyond to get me the help I need. Their organization has been key for me selecting the correct classes.”
Ella Abraham has also worked with the advisors in the Case Lab, and as another international student, she loved her experiences there. She commented “Whenever I went in for help and advice, there was always someone available to help, even if it was not my assigned advisor. All of the advisors in Case are really friendly, and even use their own experience of classes to help advise.”
