Taylor Swift spotted cheering for Travis Kelce

Sports Writer Macy Pugh discusses NFL tight end’s new pop star relationship.
Nobody was paying attention to the Chiefs’ dominance or the Chicago Bears’ turn-off-your-TV performance in Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 24. Instead, it seems that all anyone was able to talk about was the appearance of America’s sweetheart herself, Taylor Swift.
She was not performing, but all eyes were on her as she publicly accepted the invite extended to her by none other than the Chiefs’ star tight end, Travis Kelce. Like most of America, Kelce could not keep his eyes off of the young starlet, and fans even noticed that he was more reserved and less flashy than what is typical for the usually very cocky player.
Fans quickly scrambled to figure out the question in everyone’s head: how did this even come to be? It all started with a bracelet. As a staple of Swift’s unique performances, fans make bracelets to trade with other fans at the concerts. Kelce attended her show at his home stadium this July, and he came with an extra special bracelet and some daring intentions. On his podcast “New Heights,” he told listeners of his failed plan to relay his phone number to Swift through the clever method of a bracelet. NFL fans and Swifties chuckled at the interaction, and to most, it seemed harmless. Despite rumors swirling of a possible relationship, nothing concrete surfaced for weeks.
But thanks to Kelce, the rumors’ flames never died down. He continued to make small comments on his podcast and even a few on the Chiefs’ TikTok page, alluding to the fact that maybe he did not miss his opportunity with Swift. Reporters began jumping at any chance to ask Kelce about the situation. He remained vague, even going as far as dodging the question until his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He took this opportunity to clear the air and said that he “threw the ball in her court” and that he told her, “I’ve seen you rock a stage in Arrowhead and you might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead. We’ll see what happens in the near future.”
As the future came, Swift did see Kelce rock Arrowhead during her attendance on Sept. 24. The Chiefs made fools of a struggling Bears team with Kelce scoring early in the second half. This puts him just three touchdowns away from overtaking Tony Gonzalez for the most Chiefs-receiving touchdowns of all time. Swift was seen chatting it up with Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, in the Kelce family suite and cheering the Chiefs and her rumored beau on. Afterward, they were seen exiting Arrowhead Stadium together and driving away in Kelce’s getaway car.
In the newest episode of “New Heights,” the Kelce brothers discussed the game and her attendance, though briefly, as Jason Kelce felt that his little brother had to address it. “Shout out to Taylor for pulling up,” Kelce said, noting how “ballsy” it was for her to come. He stated that his family had only good things to say about her. As did the football star, who admitted she looked amazing. The publicity gained from this event is evident when you examine the spike in Kelcey jersey sales following the game. The tight end, however, has also received some physical attention with paparazzi waiting outside his home. Favoring both Swift and his privacy, Kelce commented, “What’s real is that it is my personal life. I want to respect both of our lives.”
As enthusiasts follow along for the Swift-Kelce ride, fans can only wait for more hints about the actual happenings between the two, and many suggest that Swift’s new album may pose an interesting explanation.
