Upsets and injuries for TU soccer

Men’s Soccer
The Golden Hurricane men’s soccer team had a great road trip to California this weekend. They faced up against Santa Clara and Stanford and came away with a pair of victories.
Santa Clara was the first opponent in a Thursday night matchup. Munashe Raranje came up big for Tulsa, scoring the opening goal and the game winner. His first goal gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Santa Clara responded with two goals in quick succession after the second half started. Thomas Wells evened the score again with fifteen minutes go to, and the game headed into overtime. Raranje beat a few defenders and was able to score the game winner in overtime to give Tulsa the victory.
On Saturday, the Golden Hurricane faced the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Stanford. The defense held strong throughout the game, and Rollie Rocha net a pair of penalty kick goals to help TU pull off the 2-0 upset.
After picking up their first two wins of the season, Tulsa is now 2-1-1. Next up on the schedule is a home game against Brown. The game starts at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

Women’s Soccer
Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team’s struggles continued. In a home game against James Madison on Sunday, they fell 5-0. Completely overwhelmed by the Dukes’ relentless attack, TU spent almost the entire game on defense, attempting just one shot on goal. In addition to taking the loss, Tulsa suffered several injuries in the game.
This weekend, the Golden Hurricane were in Memphis for the Tiger Invitational. On Friday, they dropped their first game 4-0 to Ole Miss. The injury depleted Tulsa lineup gave up all four goals in the first half, and were unable to recover from there.
Next up is a Sunday game against Rice in the Tiger Invitational. Hopefully the Golden Hurricane are able to get healthy and gain some momentum heading into the rivalry match against ORU on Friday at 7.
