Soccer falls in NCAA 1st round

The Golden Hurricane men’s soccer team saw their season come to a close after a 2–0 loss to Saint Louis University in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday, Nov. 20.

The game was a rematch of Tulsa’s season opener, which was played in Saint Louis. They dropped that game to the Billikens in Saint Louis by a score of 1–0. In that game, the score remained drawn at 0–0 until SLU scored with under five minutes left to get the win.

In the NCAA Tournament game, which was also played in Saint Louis, the score was again 0–0 at halftime, true to the form of the season opener. However, it only took the Billikens 20 minutes after halftime to claim the lead at 1–0. The Golden Hurricane were never able to get the better of the Billikens, who added another goal with a mere three minutes left to seal the win and move on in the tournament.

The loss concluded a strong season for the Golden Hurricane, who finished second in the American Athletic Conference standings during the regular season with a 11-6-3 overall record. They proceeded to win the conference tournament and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament. Next up: for the seniors hopefully the MLS SuperDraft, from Jan. 14–18.
