2024 election results are in and Donald Trump is voted the winner.
Republican Donald Trump has won the 2024 US presidential election becoming the 47th president over his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. As of Nov 8. Trump has 295 electoral college votes whereas Harris has 226 votes, with 270 required to win, out of 538 reports AP News. The states Trump won were Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine (1 of 4), Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska (3 out of 5), North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming concludes AP News. Harris won the states of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine (2 of 4), Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska (1 of 5), New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington reports AP News. The last swing states that Trump is currently leading are Arizona and Nevada, whereas Harris leads none of these, states AP News. All of the swing states have voted majority for Trump, however, they are all approximately within 5% to 10% of Republican voters reported AP News. Trump won 73, 541, 665 of the popular vote, which is 50.7%, whereas Harris won 69, 218, 592 votes which were 47.7% currently stated AP News. The Green Party received 661,223 with 0.5%, said AP News.
Trump was announced president on Nov. 6 but most votes were still being cast. However Trump was the first Republican to have won US elections on popular vote, reported Mint. Several world leaders including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Trump on his victory, said Mint. When Trump claimed victory, he pledged to bring a “golden age” to the US and wanted to “heal” the country, reported Mint.
Harris also called Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his win, reported US News. Within her concession speech at Howard University, Harris officially ended her 2024 presidential election bid, reported Teen Vogue. Howard University has been the center of many pivotal moments in Harris’s career, for example in 2019 she held a press conference hours after launching her first presidential campaign reported Teen Vogue. Harris also held a rally on the day President Joe Biden announced he was seeking reelection with Harris as his running mate, with her returning to the place that helped shape her announced Teen Vogue.
Harris had a historic candidacy as the first woman of black and Asian descent nearly becoming president, reported Teen Vogue. Harris told the crowd of supporters during her concession speech, “this is not a time to throw up our hands, this is the time to roll up our sleeves,” reminding young people that they still have power, stated Teen Vogue. Harris reminded young people that they still can feel sad and disappointed but it will be okay, said Teen Vogue. Historically Trump has been impeached for inciting an insurrection, convicted of multiple felony charges related to attempts to influence an election and was found liable for sexual abuse reported Teen Vogue.
Trump will reprise his role as the “commander in chief of the world’s most powerful military and largest economy” when he claimed victory, reported CBS News. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his wanting to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine, recalling talking with Trump in September to discuss this, reported CBS News.
