Avenging the football loss, men’s soccer beats Memphis 6-0.
It was a disappointing season for the University of Tulsa men’s soccer team, but the Golden Hurricane at least made sure to end it on a positive note. In their most impressive performance of the season, the Golden Hurricane shut out the Memphis Tigers 6-0.
Freshman forward Thomas Wells scored his second goal of the season just 57 seconds into the game to give Tulsa a lead that it would not relinquish, then added his second of the game in the 11th minute off an assist from Jacob Gooden. Gooden scored himself before the end of the half for a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
TU maintained the pressure in the second half, adding a score from Miguel Velasquez and two over a six-minute span from freshman midfielder Chase Bromstedt. The match was never close, as Memphis only recorded two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Cooper Clark.
The men finished their season 6-8-1 overall and 2-3-2 in the American conference. They did not qualify for the conference playoffs which begin this weekend in Dallas.
Velasquez led the Golden Hurricane in scoring on the year with 13 points on four goals and five assists. He was followed by Rollie Rocha and Wells, each of whom recorded eight points on three goals and two assists.
